bird's-nest fern on lava stone
The Asplenium nidus is commonly known as the bird's-nest fern, because in nature the plant spores mature. The leaves turn brown and curl up, so that the forest plant looks like a large nest among the tree branches. The plant does not look like a fern as we know it, with round, tongue-like leaves. Originally, the plant was found in the forests of Japan and Taiwan.
volcanic stone
This fern grows on a volcanic lava stone. Its roots have been anchored in the same stone for nourishment and in search of water. That makes this aplenium so special. Together with the lava stone it's a very elegant and decorative item for your home.

care tips
The plant can grow anywhere in the house, but make sure that it is not standing in full sunlight. It's better that the minimum temperature does not go below 15°C and not more than 30°C. The perennial volcanic lava stone absorbs water from the bucket and so the water reaches the fern's roots. Fill the container up to 2/3 and make sure that there is always a layer of water in it. The first two years it will not be necessary to fertilize the plant, because the plant will draw nutrition from the stone itself. If the tap water in your municipality contains a lot of lime, the lava stone can turn white, so it is preferable to give the plant rainwater or mineral water.
